LAKE COMO

June in Lake Como is a magical place to be, to wander and take photos and absorb the sheer beauty. The water and the sunshine and peace and light abound as the lake laps to the water’s edge, which is where I could be found, with pizza and gelato and a camera in my hand as I thanked another couple for bringing me back to my homeland…

I never need much persuading to travel to Italy for a wedding but Lake Como has a particular place in my heart. My maternal family lived here through World War II as Ashkenazi Jews, close to the safe haven of Switzerland. It’s one of my favourite places for many reasons.

If you’ve never been to Lake Como, I highly recommend staying in Belaggio and walking up to the breath-taking wedding venue Villa Balbianello. With it’s incredible views, thoughtful architecture and gorgeous gardens, it’s hard not to be impressed. I photographed an intimate wedding there last year and for once I was utterly speechless. It’s certifiably one of the most beautiful places to visit in Lake Como.

This week I’m lucky enough to be flying to Italy with my dutiful assistant to photograph a wedding in Tuscany for a very, very cool couple who have planned a beautifully authentic wedding. Non vedo l’ora! Ci sentiamo presto.

I suggested we take their photos in Richmond and so we had a chilled out afternoon walking along the river all the way down to Petersham and back.   • A MODERN LONDON FAMILY

    On a warm day in autumn with leaves on the ground, if you had strolled Hampstead Heath you might just have found, a boy named Isaiah with his parents in tow, tiny teeth and huge eyes with a smile soft and slow. On this very heath was where his father proposed, so we wandered and paused and stood in the glow of the sun beaming down on this family of three.   • HOW TO GET GREAT WEDDING PHOTOS

    I was really thrilled to have been asked to contribute some advice to You & Your Wedding’s photography special and especially honoured to see that my thoughts were sat alongside some very highly esteemed UK photographers too.


    Wedding photography is obviously hugely important to me, but whether I’m photographing your wedding or not, I still want you to have beautiful photos. Those are heirlooms you’ll frame and hang and share, so they should be beautiful. Over the past 50 weddings, I’ve learnt that every single wedding is different, but having guidelines to work with for your photos certainly helps. The article covers all sorts of aspects like deciding on a style, choosing your photographer, allocating a budget and most importantly, timings. Pick up a copy of the most recent You & Your Wedding for some invaluable advice.

    I’m heading to Edinburgh at the end of the week, for a very lovely country wedding at Lennoxlove House. I returned home from Crete this morning fresh off an Easyjet red-eye, to a huge mountain of editing and emailing but it’s always so good to be home.

  • A WALK TO THE SHOPS

    Sometimes, when you’re still fragile from the flu, just a walk to the shops wrapped up nice and warm, makes you feel so much better. Fresh air, time to wander, a coffee and a little slice of cake (or two…) It just does the trick.

  3. More than seeing your breathtakingly beautiful photos, your poems Chloe are a delight!! Didn’t know you were actually from Italy! Abd if you get are stuck for an assistant I am your girl! Hold cameras, gelatos you name it! Haha xx

  6. These photographs are beautiful. The lighting and the stunning colours depict Lake Como’s charm perfectly. The architecture looks gorgeous. I hope to visit one day.
