HOW TO GET GREAT WEDDING PHOTOS

I was really thrilled to have been asked to contribute some advice to You & Your Wedding’s photography special and especially honoured to see that my thoughts were sat alongside some very highly esteemed UK photographers too.

Wedding photography is obviously hugely important to me, but whether I’m photographing your wedding or not, I still want you to have beautiful photos. Those are heirlooms you’ll frame and hang and share, so they should be beautiful. Over the past 50 weddings, I’ve learnt that every single wedding is different, but having guidelines to work with for your photos certainly helps. The article covers all sorts of aspects like deciding on a style, choosing your photographer, allocating a budget and most importantly, timings. Pick up a copy of the most recent You & Your Wedding for some invaluable advice.

I’m heading to Edinburgh at the end of the week, for a very lovely country wedding at Lennoxlove House. I returned home from Crete this morning fresh off an Easyjet red-eye, to a huge mountain of editing and emailing but it’s always so good to be home.

I flew all the way to Italy, to picture these two get wed and I cried at the sheer beauty, of the sweet things this groom said. Their public declaration on the Amalfi coast that day, filled me up with so much happiness, an utterly perfect wedding in May. Just thirty of their closest friends, gathered together to witness this, four earnest hands held together closed tight, two vows and that first kiss.

  • A YOU & YOUR WEDDING FEATURE

I am always thrilled to see my work in magazines and doubly excited when the bride is as excitable as the very lovely Jo. The Scoones had a very colourful summer wedding in Kent last year and it was an absolute treat to photograph.

You can see their feature in the latest copy of You & Your Wedding, January/February. What a brilliant start to the year for us both!

I am very lucky to have had some incredible support from magazines such as the British Journal of Photography, You & Your Wedding, Cosmopolitan Bride and Wedding magazine over the past twelve months. I’m also very grateful to some truly beautiful blogs too; Once Wed, Style Me Pretty & here on our very own Great British Isles, Rock N Roll Bride, Before the Big Day, Belle Amour & Love My Dress have all been very lovely to me too.

I have another thirteen weddings to blog from last year, alongside a couple of engagement sessions too. I do so love this quieter time of year; spending lots of time talking to my summer brides, booking flights for foreign weddings and wandering around town taking portraits.

My next wedding isn’t until March, in the very beautiful Stockholm; one of my favourite cities in the world, where absolutely everyone is beautiful. It’s absolutely true and I’ll prove it!

  • A WEDDING IN PROVENCE

One day in Covent Garden, I met a couple quite head over heels. We spoke about their wedding, shook hands and agreed a deal. I would travel out to France for them and photograph their wedding, and they would smile and laugh all day, show me their happy ending. To Provence I went, excited, with those lovely Lavender & Rose girls, so I hope you can see what a perfect day it was, as their beautiful story unfurls.

  • A HAYMARKET HOTEL WEDDING

I photographed Lia & Gerald’s wedding exactly one month ago today, at London’s chic and vba was so elegant in her sophisticated dress and vintage jewelry and was such a pleasure to photograph with those beautiful smiling eyes. Gerald’s dapper suit perfectly matched his debonair swagger – he looked to me as if he had just wandered out of the Rat Pack…

I loved each and every one of the twelve hours I spent at this wedding, so thank you both for choosing me to share it with you.
Tomorrow I am going on an adventure to a small island called Samsø in Denmark, to photograph what is going to be a very intimate Danish / English wedding. I absolutely cannot wait.
  • TRULY GRATEFUL

I am always enamoured with nights like this one.

An evening at home with my husband, in our little London flat, sat outside under the heater on the terrace, listening to our neighbour’s winter concert, with a bottle of Oyster Bay. Feeling alive and truly grateful for life and love, forever surprised at how sweet London can be.

It’s been a phenomenal start to the year. I am already overwhelmed by what’s in store, but overwhelmed in the best way possible.

  • A WEDDING IN ST TROPEZ

When I first met Esme & Leo, we sat talking about their wedding at a local café in Hampstead and Chris Martin walked in. Cool as anything, they barely noticed as I grinning, went bright red. Esme then mentioned that he was very lovely and that she’d worked with his wife before… his wife being Gwyneth Paltrow. I don’t think I’ve ever met two cooler individuals than these two and their wedding in St Tropez, was of course, the coolest of occasions.
