BRUNCH AT THE BASTIDE

It’s memories like these of last summer’s weddings, that bring a smile to my face. Remembering the sunshine and smiles and feeling very grateful that my job is to photograph people enjoying themselves, laughing and joking and sharing a celebration. Miki & Tom had brunch with their friends and family at The Bastide near Cannes, France and it was rather splendid.

There were a lot of people being hurled into the pool on this roasting hot day and rumour quickly spread that I too was going in, so I quietly crept back to the tipi…

Miki & Tom were an absolute treat to photograph-just wait until you see their beautiful wedding in Cannes, up next. Both of these days were planned by my favourite French wedding planner of all time, the amazing Kerry Bracken.

2012 started off with a bang in Sydney, spent with my first bride and groom of the year. Their intimate weddings in Byron Bay and Bangalow were perfection and a beautiful reflection of their unique personalities… There’s more to come on those soon.

This year is shaping up to be quite fantastic with some lovely local weddings in London, a wedding on the Amalfi coast, some more pre-wedding photos in Paris and a couple of weddings in Provence, a weekend at an astounding wedding in Spain, the longheld dreams of a possible wedding in Paris and a wedding in Ibiza, a trip back to Stockholm for a very special Swedish wedding, a wedding in Croatia and another few weddings in France and Tuscany, all before the beginning of autumn. Passports at the ready, we’re feeling very lucky indeed.

Tomorrow at 5am, I leave for Portugal to photograph these two love birds who are getting married on Saturday. It’s also 27 degrees which should mean a welcome return of my freckles. I really can’t wait.

Jing & Bai are a truly unique couple. From the moment we met, I loved their style and individuality, Jing’s cheeky eyes and Bai’s sense of calm. I was honoured to photograph their intimate London wedding, which they shared together with twenty friends. At our first meeting, Bai told me that he liked tilt-shift photography, so I bought a tilt-shift lens to use at their wedding. It’s a tiny little bit magic.

  • A NOTE TO YOU, WINTER

When it’s cold and it’s cloudy and the sun sets in the day, and it’s too dark too early and snow’s on it’s way, you declare you hate winter and you’ll move to warmer climes and spend the rest of your days living in summertime… and then there are these two and they marry in London town and the sun makes it’s debut just before it’s heading down, and suddenly everything is really quite fine and you decide to wait it out until that Great British springtime.

I have quite a love-hate relationship with winter, which mostly lies heavily on the hate side of things. The cold and the frost and the dusting off the faux fur and the boots and the heater and the dark at 3pm… and then just when you think you’ve had enough, there are daffodils and afternoon rays and that one sunny morning where you got your freckles back.

I’m photographing my first spring wedding of the year this afternoon and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve taken a few weeks out lately to spend time with my family and have also squeezed in time for a few film family portrait sessions, with a little help from my new best friends at UK Film Lab. I’ve also had time to catch up on all the things I leave til winter, like kissing friends’ brand new babies and reading Vanity Fair… Maybe winter isn’t quite as bad as I like to make out.
