A HUMANIST WEDDING

A wedding in September, in a field beneath a tree, a couple stands amongst their friends, and vow into the breeze. To love one another and to cherish, to have and to hold forever tight, the band sings stay with me, I’ll stay with you, and we’re warmed by the sunlight.

A more perfect day I could never have dreamt, so I framed these memories, of that late summer day, of Matt and of Jess, and their glorious, humanist ceremony.

Venue: The beautiful House Meadow // The Dress: Frou Frou // Bridesmaids dresses: Topshop, 2011 // Celebrant: Xena of Bespoke Humanist Ceremonies // Catering: Chicks That Chop (the greatest meal I’m yet to eat at a wedding) Band: The Bonfire Band and later, The In-Laws

The hugest and most heartfelt of thank yous, to you Jess & Matt, for having me with you, crying my eyes out through your beautiful ceremony. It really was perfection.

This most gorgeous of weddings is also featured on the splendid Style Me Pretty, right here. Thank you to the ladies there too, for their very kind words and for all of your very sweet comments.

This weekend I’m off to photograph two lovely, lovely weddings. One for a couple tying the knot in their sixties at the elegant and understated, Frederick’s in Islington. Cameras at the ready, it’s going to be a beautiful weekend!

  • A YOU & YOUR WEDDING FEATURE

I am always thrilled to see my work in magazines and doubly excited when the bride is as excitable as the very lovely Jo. The Scoones had a very colourful summer wedding in Kent last year and it was an absolute treat to photograph.

You can see their feature in the latest copy of You & Your Wedding, January/February. What a brilliant start to the year for us both!

I am very lucky to have had some incredible support from magazines such as the British Journal of Photography, You & Your Wedding, Cosmopolitan Bride and Wedding magazine over the past twelve months. I’m also very grateful to some truly beautiful blogs too; Once Wed, Style Me Pretty & here on our very own Great British Isles, Rock N Roll Bride, Before the Big Day, Belle Amour & Love My Dress have all been very lovely to me too.

I have another thirteen weddings to blog from last year, alongside a couple of engagement sessions too. I do so love this quieter time of year; spending lots of time talking to my summer brides, booking flights for foreign weddings and wandering around town taking portraits.

My next wedding isn’t until March, in the very beautiful Stockholm; one of my favourite cities in the world, where absolutely everyone is beautiful. It’s absolutely true and I’ll prove it!

  • TRULY GRATEFUL

I am always enamoured with nights like this one.

An evening at home with my husband, in our little London flat, sat outside under the heater on the terrace, listening to our neighbour’s winter concert, with a bottle of Oyster Bay. Feeling alive and truly grateful for life and love, forever surprised at how sweet London can be.

It’s been a phenomenal start to the year. I am already overwhelmed by what’s in store, but overwhelmed in the best way possible.

  • HELLO ELIJAH

It’s taken me quite some time to pull this post together. I’ve had mixed emotions about sharing something so personal belonging to my clients, but they asked me to when they saw them and I feel like sharing something different today.

I had never really thought so much about photographing a birth until I was asked by my two beautiful friends. I was worried I would be in the way, that their memories would be of me and my camera and not of the birth of their first child and also selfishly, that it might put me off having my own children… I wasn’t, they aren’t and it didn’t.

I was the first person to ever take a photograph of this human being. Hello, Elijah.

I know he can’t really see but at four minutes old, he looked straight at me.

Kristina, you have never been more beautiful than you were on 21st January at 7.09am. You know that I am in total awe of you both and that I’m so grateful to have been asked to be there with you, camera in hand. You are simply incredible, made of the most inspiring things and I love you very much.

I’m away this week for a couple of days, spending time with my ma and sister. It’s times like these that reaffirm just how special a family is.
